Comedy Central Rebrands.
I was watching Comedy Central this weekend and I noticed that something was a little off. The small logo on the bottom of my TV screen had suddenly changed to a copyright sign. I wondered a little but then it dawned on me that it was the new logo for the network.
Apparently this branding change has been in the works for quite some time. The last time Comedy Central redesigned their logo was...

NBA Encouragement Promos... Simply Amazing!
Every year NBA commissions a series of ads that are very striking in execution and ingenuity. Few years back it was the split screen commercials that put rivals faces on either side of the TV screen both uttering the same words. The dynamic of the the faces that where put side by side made the ads even more interesting considering some of the players didn’t have a good rapport with each...

Enjoying Art While Waiting for Your Flight
It is so refreshing to see famous artists at display in places that you least expect them to appear. In a recent trip to London I had the privilege of staying at the newly improved Toronto Airport, and to my delight I encountered a great work from Richard Serra greeting me as soon as I descended from the escalator that took me to the gates. It was a great sight to see, for a work of this stature...
7 Decades of Anonymity is No More for Carmen...
Seven decades of anonymity unravels for Carmen Herrera when she sells her first painting for $50,000. Now every museum and gallery in the world is scrambling to get their hands on her minimalist paintings. She used to paint in peace and enjoy the lifestyle of an anonymous artist but her work is just too good to be kept a secret any longer. Now the world has the opportunity to cherish her work...
Alexa Meade Making Paintings Come Alive!
A few months ago we were privileged enough to be exposed to Alexa Meade’s incredible art. Eventhough the finished product mesmerized us, we were more blown away by here ingenious and innovative implementation. What she is doing is not that new as far as technique is concerned. Some artists in South East Asia have been doing it for quite a while. Yet Alexa took the Trompe-L’Oeil...
Who is Going to Win the Smartphone War?
According to James Altucher of the Formula Capital Apple and Google will win the smartphone wars. It seems like BlackBerry and the rest of the smartphone manufacturers are going to loose market share rapidly.
Altucher believes that computing has become to most sought after feature that the users of smartphones are looking for these days. That is the one area where RIM, Nokia, Motorola and...
Why is this taking so long?
We all have had to deal with waiting at some point or another. We sit in traffic. We wait in checkout lines. We wait for stuff to download. But, we are getting more impatient as days go by and “I want it now” syndrome is slowly creeping into our lives and taking hold of our actions and emotions.
I have had some encounters with impatient people in my line of work and as long as I...

The emergence of the iPad as an entertainment hub is undeniable. Apple has long been a trend setter for the industry and everyone so far has been playing catch up. It’s true that all competitors come up with gadgets that boast better performance and more features, but what they all have been lacking is timing.
It looks like almost everyone, even the almighty Google, has been sitting on...

Passiontolive: Going Beyond what Camera Captures
I recently attended Ben Passiontolive’s photography show, Sunday Sessions, at the L2 Lounge in Washington, DC. The event was organized by Art Soiree, an organization with a goal to showcase emerging talent in the visual arts, short film, music, and performance arts. The venue was certainly suitable to the moody photographs on display and we got a chance to chat with Ben at the event and he...
Beautiful Design of the Week: Veerle's Blog
Here at Marstudio we go gaga over beautiful design. We sift through so many bad designs on a daily basis that when we come across a design that has creativity, a sense of color, austerity of composition and great content to go with all that, it brightens up our day and makes us want to tell everyone and give credit where credit is due. So, starting today we have started the “Beautiful Design...

Simplify and They Will Come.
Recently I took a trip to London and I was exposed to a number of very simple and clever advertisements for Volks Wagon created by DDB. The ads were so clever that I became obsessed with finding every iteration of them. The ads are placed mainly in the London Underground system. Here is one that caught my eye as soon as I stepped into the Piccadilly Line:
The design is extremely simple yet it...

Morphosis Distorts Architecture for the Better
For years Thom Mayne has been distorting people’s views of conventional architecture and I love him for it. I believe that each time a building designed by him is erected the future of architecture in United States gets a little brighter. There are always critics that are going to look for the familiar in Thom’s work and when they can’t find it they will try to portray his work...
Barcodes can be fun, but only in Japan!
I never knew that one could actually design a barcode. They are so mundane and mechanical in nature that it never occurred to me they could be designed. Then I came across an amazing collection of stylized barcodes for some Japanese products that blew me away. Apparently this phenomenon has become very popular in Japan and their designers are coming up with crazy fun ideas to spruce up the boring...

Yet another Verizon attempt at dethroning iPhone!
Verizon has had a tough time in the past trying to introduce a phone that can compete with Apple’s iPhone. The issue is not Verizon’s lack of enthusiasm for their new competing phones or the advertising muscle they put behind each device. The main problem is with the phone manufacturers that still can’t produce a phone that can out shine iPhone. Of course we can’t...
